Ross Porter Appointed to JPEC's Advisory Board

Toronto, January 17, 2011 – Raymond Koskie, President of the Jazz Performance and Education Centre (JPEC), is pleased to announce that legendary Canadian jazz broadcaster and President and CEO of JAZZ.FM91, has become a member of JPEC's distinguished Advisory Board.

Ross Porter is known coast-to-coast as having a passionate and intimate knowledge of the jazz genre. He has enjoyed a distinguished career as a broadcaster, documentary maker and writer of a consumer guide to jazz recordings, The Essential Jazz Recordings: 101 CDs, in 2006, which became a music best seller.

Porter's career has many highlights and includes time with both CBC Radio and TV, and COOL TV. He was voted "Jazz Broadcaster of the Year" twice and has received the Canwest Award for his "Outstanding Contribution to Jazz". In 2009, the Jazz Journalists Association nominated Porter for the "Willis Conover-Marian McPartland Award for Broadcasting".

Ross Porter's formidable knowledge on the business side and experience with the jazz art form will be a tremendous and exciting asset for JPEC, as it moves forward to implement its Mission.

JPEC is a not-for-profit registered charity, dedicated to the preservation and continued development of jazz in Canada.
