Understanding Market Differences: TSX, S&P and DOW
Lately we have fielded many questions about the differences between the performances of the Canadian and U.S. markets. While it seemed that U.S. markets saw record highs in 2017, we had much more muted performance on the TSX.
It might be easy to explain through differences in tax rates, growth rates and the expected difference in interest rates, but there is more to it than that. The page four article "Index Asymmetry? TSX, S&P and DOW" in our Q2 Perspective Newsletter addresses this situation.
Your portfolio should reflect your own circumstances and risk tolerance. Our objective is rooted in preservation and growth of your wealth to meet your future goals. "Chasing indexes" is not recommended.
As always, we are happy to discuss any of this with you.
